Cataract surgery is a fast procedure that restores a person’s vision to their pre-cataract clarity nearly immediately. But what if you could achieve vision that was better than it was before the cataracts set in? At Alliance Vision Institute, we offer a variety of advanced IOL options that can help you do just that.

What is an Intraocular Lens (IOL)?

During cataract surgery, the cloudy lens of the eye is removed and replaced with an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) to restore clear vision. Standard, or monofocal IOLs are covered by insurance, and can help patients achieve clearer vision at a single range. This means that with a standard IOL, you can get clearer near or distance vision after cataract surgery, but not both.

Premium IOLs used during cataract surgery can further optimize your vision by helping you see more clearly at a range of distances. Premium IOLs are an elective upgrade for cataract surgery, so they are not covered by insurance. Still, our patients feel that the added expense is well worthwhile when considering the many ways significantly improved vision can enhance their lives.

Customize Your Vision Correction: Types of IOLs

We offer a full range of advanced IOLs, making it possible to customize each patient’s cataract surgery to help them achieve better vision at all ranges.

Toric IOLs

Toric intraocular lenses are made specifically for patients with astigmatism, which is a refractive error caused by an eye that is irregular in shape and can affect both near and distance vision. Toric vision packages make premium IOLs accessible to patients with astigmatism, while other IOLs may not offer the same level of vision correction.

Multifocal IOLs

Multifocal IOLs are designed to help patients achieve better vision at a range of distances, allowing for improved clarity with multiple customized focuses. Because we offer a number of multifocal vision packages for cataract surgery, we can improve patients’ vision at near, intermediate, or distance vision—or any combination of those ranges.

Light Adjustable Lens™

Our adjustable vision package is made possible by the RxSight® Light Adjustable Lens. This is the premier vision package we recommend for our own family members as well as pilots, surgeons, and other patients for whom crisp, clear vision is an absolute must.

The Light Adjustable Lens offers the highest level of customization and flexibility of any IOL because our doctors can actually fine-tune patients’ prescriptions after the lens is implanted. After the patients’ eyes have healed, we use light energy to make minute changes to this lens until we reach their best possible vision.

Which IOL is right for you?

At Alliance Vision Institute, we believe an educated patient is a patient who is confident in their treatment plan. Knowing more about IOLs is the best way to feel empowered when it comes to your vision correction after cataract surgery. That said, you won’t have to decide which IOL option is right for you on your own! Our ophthalmologists and eye health specialists are here to provide the expert guidance you need to determine which IOL is best for your lifestyle and vision needs.
