Dr. Crowell is an Optometrist at Alliance Vision Institute, serving the Dallas-Ft. Worth, TX community. She specializes in treating and managing ocular diseases, including glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, dry eyes and ocular surface disease, as well as pre and post-operative care for vision correction patients.
Diabetes is a disease that can affect the entire body, but it’s infamous for having significant effects on your eyes. That’s why, if you have or are at risk for diabetes, it’s important to have an eye doctor look for related conditions like diabetic retinopathy.
Dry eye disease is an exceedingly common condition when your eyes aren’t getting enough hydration from your tears.
Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness worldwide, and due to its tendency to cause vision loss without warning, it’s been dubbed the “silent thief of sight.”
Dr. Crowell grew up in a small Mississippi town nestled just outside Memphis, Tennessee. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to the University of Arkansas, where she proudly cheered on the Razorbacks. After relocating to San Antonio for optometry school, Dr. Crowell decided to make the Lone Star State her home. She completed her residency at a community clinic in Fort Worth. During her time there she encountered ocular diseases in their most formidable manifestations while tirelessly serving an underserved population.
In the process, Dr. Crowell discovered her deep-seated passion for improving the lives of patients through vision and overall health. Her involvement in local and statewide optometric and public health societies became a testament to her commitment. These organizations work to enhance, protect, and educate on the quality of eye care for Texas patients and ensure equal access to vision and eye health services for all residents. She dedicated substantial time and effort to advance patient care across Texas.
Beyond her professional pursuits, Dr. Crowell enjoys cheering for her favorite sports teams, indulging in culinary adventures as a dedicated foodie, exploring new destinations through travel, and staying active with her love for running.
In the fifth grade, I had a life-altering encounter with a boomerang that introduced me to the world of optometry in the most unexpected way. A mishap with a boomerang during playtime resulted in a painful and bloody injury to my eye. It was a terrifying moment, and I was left with an inerasable memory.
However, amid the chaos and fear, I was fortunate to have an incredible optometrist by my side. They didn’t just mend my eye; they mended my spirit. Their patience, reassurance, and coaching guided me on the path to a full recovery. As I navigated through the healing process, I couldn’t help but be captivated by the intricate world of eye health.
This unforgettable experience set the stage for my lifelong passion for optometry. The care I received ignited a spark within me, driving me to explore the wonders of the human eye and the profound impact it has on our lives.
As I pursued a career in optometry, my journey naturally led me to ocular disease. I found myself drawn to the complexities of diagnosing and treating conditions that affect the eyes. The more I delved into this field, the more I realized the importance of educating my patients about every aspect of their eye health.
From diabetes to hypertension, and even autoimmune disorders, the eyes serve as a window into our overall health. Every day at Alliance Vision Institute, there’s a new opportunity to engage with my patients, share insight and knowledge about eye health, and connect the dots between ocular symptoms and potential underlying conditions.
As I reflect on my journey from that fateful day in the fifth grade to where I am today, I am reminded of the impact my optometrist had on my life. I promise to pay forward that kindness and care to every patient who walks through our doors, ensuring they receive the same level of dedication and expertise that ignited my love for optometry!
